I always knew and felt Olivia was somethin' special, but for some reason it really hit me today as I was leaving for work. She has been waving "bye" for a while now when you say "bye-bye" and wave. Today was different though; my mom was holding her at the garage door when I walked around the front of the car away from Olivia's view. She leaned forward to find me then began to wave without being prompted. It melts my heart each time she waves or smiles at me. As much as I hate leaving her to go to work, coming home to her each day is like Christmas all over! The minute she sees me a huge smile breaks out on her face and she gets her legs kicking.
On Sunday she sat up on her own (from a lying position) for the first time. Who knew something as simple as someone sitting up would bring such excitiment and cheers? My little girl is growing up so quickly; I wish I could just slow things down a little because I feel like I am missing something.
When she gets bored on her blanket she cruises over to the corner where we keep her backflow of toys and books and rumages through them. Last night pulled herself up on her knees on her book basket and began touching and pulling all her books out while talking to herself. At bed-time I read a few books to her then tried to nurse her, but something on her book shelf caught her eye. She sat up and would not eat and kept moaning and whining. I walked her over to her shelf when she instantly reached for her favorite book and got excited. So, we ended up reading one more before finally going to bed. (Her favorite book is Dog by Matthew Fleet--she LOVES puppies.) Today she crawled to the basket, touched it, then began to cry. My mom went over to pick her up and said, "Do you want to read some books?" then picked up a few. Olivia stopped crying instantly and began to do her infamous "happy grunt." The girl loves her books! It's the one thing that keeps her happy when all else fails. Being a teacher, this makes me very happy!
hmmm....which one haven't I read in a while?
